Respected, Cayucos-based duo builds custom investment portfolios
Scott McManus, a California native, today announced the formation of an independent financial advisory firm – Cayucos Wealth – based in his hometown. As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), he will operate the firm with his son, John. Together the pair has 25 years of experience in the financial industry.
Scott McManus began his career as a CPA, but quickly learned he liked being on the “front end of earning money, rather than working with the numbers after the fact,” he said. His career has included working as a successful financial advisor for Edward Jones, and most recently, WealthSource.
He said he is proud to launch and grow a new firm that serves his neighbors on the Central Coast of California – an area he loves. “And that John has joined me, bringing on a skillset focused on both finance and technology, makes this enterprise especially exciting,” he added.
Scott McManus said the firm will offer the same array of financial services he previously provided his clients and will have access to a broader spectrum of technology and tools. “We will continue to provide services including financial planning, wealth management, tax planning and estate planning. We also focus on insurance, saving for education, retirement income strategies and social security,” he added.
John McManus said Cayucos Wealth is a fiduciary advisor – an intentionally boutique firm offering independent advice that does not charge commissions for each transaction. “We’re honest and straightforward in providing insight to hidden costs, how investments are structured, tax implications and the unique cost of risk. We outline possibilities and knowledgeably walk you through your options. We build custom plans and portfolios tailored to the unique needs of each client, then work with them one-on-one for a lifetime,” he said.
Cayucos Wealth is partnering with Sowell Management, a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) in North Little Rock, Arkansas, with more than $4 billion in regulatory assets under management/assets under administration (as of August 2022) and recognized in 2020 by Barron’s as one of the country’s Top 100 RIAs.
“Sowell is a nationwide leader in the RIA industry and will provides back-office services such as billing, account management and best-in-class technology to Cayucos Wealth. We now have more tools to gather and analyze financial information quickly and additional portfolio and planning offerings through Sowell,” John McManus said.
Bill Sowell, CEO of Sowell Management, said Cayucos Wealth “is a firm that shares Sowell’s core principles of honesty and transparency and will be an asset to those looking for a respected firm for solid, reliable financial planning. We are excited to be building our relationship with them,” Sowell said.
The Cayucos Wealth team also includes Charles Schwab, one of the largest custodians of investment advisory assets. They will provide custodial, operational, practice management and trading support. “Together, we are able to provide clients five-star service, and we are excited to be doing it right here in the Central Coast area,” John McManus said.
John McManus described Cayucos Wealth as, “a family who is here for yours.”
We are on the journey with you and those you love as you navigate life’s challenges and opportunities. We walk you through the complex financial world of markets and securities, and have your back with day-to-day family issues like paying bills for elderly parents or advice about expensive life decisions,” he added.
Both Scott and John are deeply invested in the Central Coast area and wind surf together. The family moved from the Los Angeles area to Cayucos in the late 1980s. They were drawn by the brilliant blue water and the adventurous spirit of the people, Scott McManus said.
“You could say the wind blew us here,” he added.
